This is the moment a blaze in a Christmas tree at a festive market is extinguished before the conifer is completely destroyed.

But the brave man in just a T-shirt who put out the blaze was only partially successful, as the flames manages to burn through the electricity cables shortly before it was extinguished.

Tamas Janovicz posted the clip of the conifer burning and giving off smoke in a main square in Budapest, Hungary, on 15th December to TikTok.

At the time of writing, it had racked up more than 440,000 views.

The tree that caught fire sits at the centre of the famous Advent Basilica Christmas market in front of St Stephen’s Basilica.

The man dressed in black who was on hand to put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher looked as if he had been inside somewhere, as he was not dressed for the winter weather.

No one was injured and the damage caused was minimal, local media reported.

Organisers of the market said in a statement that they had launched a probe into the incident and had found that the fire was caused by a factory defect in the lighting.

TikTok user Dina I. commented on the video: “A Christmas tree and a fireplace too.”

And ‘Kate’ remarked: “Accurate representation of this year.”

An online vote named the Advent Basilica the best Christmas market in Europe in 2022 for the third year in a row.
