This is the moment a lawyer is shot dead by a gunman while filling up his car at a petrol station in front of a pump attendant who simply removed the pump hose from the car after the murder.

The incident was filmed at a petrol station in the neighbourhood of Primitivo Crespo in the city of Cali in the south-western Colombian department of Valle del Cauca, and the footage was shared on Facebook where it has been viewed over 107,000 times.

According to local media, the victim, identified as 44-year-old Mariano Cuero, worked as a lawyer and private investigator and was the only person inside the car at the time of the shooting.

In the footage, a man in a black T-shirt is seen running up to the car as a petrol attendant fills up the vehicle at a pump.

While the worker is distracted, the gunman appears to fire multiple shots through the passenger window before running off.

According to reports, the local authorities are trying to identify the suspect through the CCTV footage as well as establish whether a biker passing in front of the victim as he positioned his car at the pump is also linked to the crime.

Local media said that the victim was one of the candidates being considered for an official position in charge of safeguarding human rights and public safety in the municipality of Candelaria, also in Valle del Cauca.

Reports said the victim was also investigating several extradition cases at the time of his death which could be a possible reason for being killed.

The investigation continues.
