Gran, Granddaughter, Housekeeper Shot Dead In Raid

A grandmother, her granddaughter and a female housekeeper have been shot dead after several men broke into the house in a country where 300 women were murdered in 2019.

The triple murder took place in the village of Linda Vista in the municipality of Cololaca in the western Honduran department of Lempira.

According to local media, Ledubina Espinoza Leon, Yenny Roxana Ramos and Yesica Yadira Rivera Dubon were shot dead by several armed men who broke into the house.

Reports said that the victims included a grandmother, her granddaughter and a housekeeper who worked at the house. Their ages were not disclosed.

Photos show the three women lying on the floor, one of them with her face visibly covered in blood.

Local police have quizzed several family members who claimed the women were killed because of a dispute with another family, according to reports.

The investigation is ongoing.

According to local media, 300 women were violently murdered in Honduras during 2019.

With a population of around 9.2 million people, a female citizen is said to be killed every 18 hours in the Central American country.

According to the director of the Centre for Women Studies in Honduras, organised crime is responsible for 79 percent of the murders while 90 percent of cases remain unpunished.
