A jilted ex has fatally shot this pretty hairdresser in the face leaving her kids without a mum.

Jackeline Aparecida de Souza Galvao, 37, was shot in the face in the town of Nova Alvorada do Sul in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul.

Her ex-boyfriend, 45-year-old salesman Marcos Bezerra de Melo, is suspected of having committed the femicide.

According to the Civil Police (Brazil’s investigative police force), the suspect could not accept the breakup and went to the victim’s house mere hours after she called the relationship off.

Before shooting her in the face, he tried to shoot her 10-year-old son, but his big sister, aged 22, stepped in the way to defend her brother, and she was injured by a bullet to the wrist.

Both mother and daughter were taken to the Santa Casa de Campo Grande hospital in the Mato Grosso do Sul state capital Campo Grande around 120 kilometres (75 miles) away.

The mother underwent surgery, but she ended up succumbing to her injuries. As of yesterday, the daughter remained in hospital under observation.

The Civil Police of Nova Alvorada do Sul are investigating the case as femicide and attempted murder.

According to reports, the suspect has a criminal record for smuggling and drug trafficking. He was arrested for the former in September last year (2020) and for the latter in October 2014.

The mother’s age was given as 39 and the daughter’s as 20 in some reports.

The victim’s funeral was held in the town of Sidrolandia, also in Mato Grosso do Sul.
