A dad has lost his licence after he let his five-year-old daughter drive his Mercedes-Benz and posted this video of it online.

Merc owner Mr Cai caught the attention of police in the city of Yiwu, which is in East Cina’s Zhejiang Province, after the video showed his daughter sitting in his lap with both hands on the wheel.

In the footage, which was filmed by Mr Cai himself while the vehicle was moving, the girl is seen controlling the two-seater car and asking: “Should I turn?”

The authorities summoned Mr Cai on 27th August, with the dad revealing the clip was filmed in July while he was taking his five-year-old daughter and nine-year-old son home from class.

He told the police: “My kids were fighting, so I let one of them sit on my lap.

“She was still restless and wanted to drive, so I took a video and posted it online.”

Mr Cai insisted that his daughter “wasn’t actually driving”, and that he was doing just 20 kph (12 mph) with no other cars around him.

The authorities, however, took away his licence after finding him guilty of allowing his daughter to impede his driving, using his phone on the road, as well as putting three people in a two-person car.

He was given a total of eight demerit points, which, added to his existing six, meant he met the 12-point driving ban threshold.

Mr Cai’s licence was revoked, and he will be required to retake his driving test.

He was also fined 300 RMB (34 GBP).
