A video has gone viral of a hairdresser giving the Virgin Mary a new look.

The video, which has reached over 2 million views on TikTok, was shot at the hairdresser’s in the city of Caacupe in Paraguay which is also the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Caacupe.

The site is also famous for the appearance of the Virgin of Caacupe which is a major religious festival every year at the start of December.

The legend began when a local sculptor named Jose, reportedly close to death, was saved by divine intervention, and in gratitude carved a beautiful statue of the virgin to give thanks to God.

The Our Lady of Caacupe has been reviewed ever since, and the annual religious festival revolves around the same statuette referred to as “Our Lady of Miracles”. The original statue was carved in the 16th century and reportedly grants miracles after it spectacularly survived a huge flood.

It is not clear whether the statue being washed is the iconic statue that is worshipped or a copy, but the hairdresser reportedly confirmed that the hair on the ceramic figure was real.

She also said that it was gently placed lying down slightly while they washed the hair and then gave it a frizz.

The hairdresser, identified only by the name Lili, was quoted as saying that the same thing happens every year for the last six years.

The clothes of the statue are also washed and cleaned and a new set of clothes is usually provided.

The hairdresser said she believed the cleaning supported the work of the statue and was rewarded with thousands of people passing on blessings and gratitude for the care and attention to the precious relic.
