This is the moment Eden Hazard puts himself through his spaces in the gym as he works to return to fitness – and Real Madrid fans were quick to criticise his weight.

Former Chelsea forward Hazard, 28, was filmed training in the gym as he rehabilitates from a microfissure he suffered to his left ankle in late November.

The video shows the moment Hazard does exercises to strengthen his core and legs. He is also seen doing some light cardio on a stationary bicycle as the post is captioned: “@hazardeden10 continues to work on his rehabilitation process!”

Hazard has been plagued with complaints about his weight since arrival in the Spanish capital and netizens were quick to point out his weight in the comments.

Netizen ‘Bruno’ commented: “To burn off the hamburgers.”

Netizen ‘Luke’ added: “Let’s go man, the team needs you. And eat less. Get in shape dummy.”

While ‘Julian’ wrote: “More like ‘in his process of losing weight’.”

Hazard suffered the injury to his left ankle in a challenge by Belgian right-back Thomas Meunier in the 64th minute of Real Madrid’s 2-2 draw against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the Champions League group stage.

Benzema scored Real Madrid’s only goals of the match before Welsh winger Gareth Bale, 30, was brought on to replace the injured Hazard.

Local media initially reported the injury was minimal and Hazard would return in 10 days, however, the striker has reportedly chosen to stay off the pitch as he still feels some pain in his ankle.

The ex-Chelsea forward’s brother Kylian Hazard recently spoke with local media and said: “He is fine but does not want to take any risks. It is only a matter of time and he will be back stronger.”

The aim of the club is reportedly for the striker to be able to return for the Spanish Supercup semi-final against Valencia scheduled for 8th January of next year.

Barcelona are set to play Atletico Madrid on 9th January in the second semi-final to decide who will play in the final.

This is the first year the Spanish Supercup adopts the format with semi-finals as in previous years the cup was played in a one-off match between the winners of La Liga and Copa del Rey.

Real Madrid have not issued any statements commenting Hazard’s return.
