Hapless Student Ends Up In Icy Canal While Sliding Down Hill On Plastic Sheet

This is the moment a university student slides down a snowy slope on a plastic sheet and loses control, breaking through a wire fence and falling seven feet into an icy canal.

Hapless student Metin Can Celen was strolling around the campus of Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University in the city of Burdur in the Turkish province of the same name when he saw some pals sliding down the icy slope after a period of snowfall.

He decided to join in with the wintry fun and readied himself for a thrilling slide down the snowy hill.

However, Metin lost control while speeding down the slope and smashed into a wire mesh fence, breaking through and tumbling two metres (6.6 feet) into the freezing cold canal below.

In the footage, Metin is seen casting the camera a look before setting off down the hill on what appears to be a plastic sheet.

Halfway down, he apparently loses control of his speed and twists his body to try to slow down.

However, he spins around and hits the wire meshing headfirst, bursting through and tumbling over the edge.

As his legs disappear from view, several onlookers run over to help him.

Metin was taken to hospital after the incident as a precautionary measure.

He said afterwards: “My university friends and younger siblings were sliding on plastic sacks. I wanted to give it a go, but while I was descending, I could not control my speed and I fell two metres into the canal.

“I was then hospitalised as a precautionary measure, and thankfully I did not have any problems.”
