This viral video seen nearly three million times shows a little girl playing hide-and-seek inside a cardboard box when a motorist drives right over her landing her in hospital.

The accident happened in Wujiang District in coastal Suzhou City in China’s eastern province of Zhejiang.

The video shows the girl playing in the side street outside her home and climbing into the cardboard box to conceal herself.

Before long, a white Ford Ecosport drives into the alleyway and the motorist does not appear to stop before running right over the box, apparently believing it to be empty.

The girl is run over by the front-right wheel, and the SUV can be seen rising up as the car drives over her before stopping.

According to reports, the crying girl was plucked out the underside of the car by her parents, who took her to hospital.

The child is not in any serious condition but continues to be hospitalised for a fractured chest bone.

Suzhou traffic police said the Ford driver, whose name, age and gender have not been disclosed, will be held fully liable for failing to inspect the box before driving over it.
