Shocked French gendarmes who spotted this man on a scooter with a huge mattress on the back posted the image online to warn others not to drive dangerously.

The incident occurred in the city of Montpellier in the Herault department in the southern Occitanie region where the gendarmes had spotted the man on the scooter.

Posting the picture on social media they added the caption: “Not exactly very discreet” and then added “A new type of vehicle on the roads of the department.” They also called the vehicle an “unidentified rolling object.”

A police officer then posted jokingly that the driver was clearly visibly tired from his night’s endeavours, and had “decided to drive around with his mattress” and no doubt intended to use it next time they felt like a nap.

More seriously, they stressed that motorcyclists should realise that such attempts to move large objects are dangerous and not allowed on the roads.

They also warned that it was not only dangerous for the person transporting the dangerous load, but that it also “endangers the lives of other divers”.

And they added that there were now many schemes available that gave easy access to cheap and safe alternative transport methods for loads like this.

They pointed out that this kind of behaviour puts the lives of other drivers at risk and of course, puts the person on the scooter at risk.

It is unclear if the scooter rider was fined.
