Barcelona Send Request To La Liga To Sign Striker

Barcelona have sent La Liga bosses a request to allow them to sign a new striker outside the transfer window after receiving news that French superstar Ousmane Dembele could be out for six months.

Barcelona sent the request yesterday (Thursday) and La Liga has a period of 72 to give the club a response.

The request comes after Barcelona forward Dembele, 22, was confirmed to have a rupture in his right hamstring after he felt some discomfort during training at the start of this month.

He underwent surgery on Tuesday 11th February in the city Turku in the south-western Finland by Dr Lampainen.

Dembele was given a recovery time of six months which will see him miss the remainder of the season.

Local media report clubs that have a player set for a prolonged absence of five months or more are allowed to send a request to sign a replacement outside the transfer windows.

If Barcelona get La Liga’s approval, they will have 15 days to carry out the signing with several names already rumoured to be linked such as former Arsenal flop Lucas Perez, 31, and Getafe striker Angel Rodriguez, 32.

Local media said that Barcelona sporting director Eric Abidal, 40, reportedly met with the club’s boss Quique Setien, 61, and general director Oscar Grau, 55, yesterday (Thursday) to try and work out which players they want to pursue.

Barcelona are second in La Liga with 49 points and are set to play the third-placed Getafe tomorrow (Saturday).
