FREE-DOOM FIGHT: Israel Arrests Palestinian Journalist For Incitement In Front Of Her Two Screaming Kids

Israeli authorities have extended the detention of a Palestinian journalist for a third time after arresting her for ‘incitement’ in front of her screaming children.

Lama Ghosheh, from the neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem, was detained after the Israeli Army raided her home on Sunday, 4th September.

Her arrest warrant was allegedly related to her defence of homes in Sheikh Jarrah against takeover by Israeli settlers and was issued on Thursday, 1st September.

According to reports, the 32-year-old Birzeit University graduate was taken away on ‘incitement’ charges in front of her children Quais, 3, and Karmel, 5.

The Army also seized her smartphone and laptop.

Her husband and former political prisoner Yassin Sobeih claimed that Israeli soldiers vandalised their property and deliberately frightened their children during the raid.

It is not the first time Ghosheh has been arrested; she was detained several times in the past, allegedly due to her work with the East Jerusalem-based Elia Youth Media Foundation.

The foundation was raided multiple times before being completely shut down over allegations of affiliation with a terrorist organisation in 2018.

Ghosheh’s arrest follows the alleged ongoing suppression of Palestinian journalists by Israel, which reached its peak after the killing of 51-year-old Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.

Akleh, who worked for Al Jazeera, died after being shot by Israeli soldiers while covering an army assault on the northern West Bank city of Jenin on Wednesday, 11th May.

Following her arrest, Ghosheh’s detention has been extended three times by a magistrate court, based on the Israeli Public Prosecutor’s request to complete an investigation.

She is expected to remain in custody until Tuesday, 13th September.
