This is the heartwarming moment a firefighter plucks a tiny squealing kitten from the smouldering ashes of a house blaze.
The incident took place in the town of Novaya Ladoga in the district of Volkhovsky in the north-western Russian region of Leningrad Oblast after a fire devastated the house the night before.
The next morning, fire inspectors arrived at the property to inspect the damage and establish the cause of the blaze.
Firefighter Jan Tsaregorodtsev was carrying out checks when he was distracted by the faint sound of a small animal.
Tsaregorodtsev soon realised that the sound was coming from under the rubble of the smouldering building.
He informed head firefighter Andrei Saltykov and the pair searched through the debris.
As seen in the footage, moments later Saltykov plucked the tiny kitten from under the house and passes it to his colleague Tsaregorodtsev.
With filthy matted fur, the poor kitten starts to meow once it is breathing clean air again.
According to local media, the kitten was taken to the ‘Nadejda’ (Hope) veterinary clinic in the city of Volkhov where experts are treating it.
Reports said that the kitten is in a healthy condition and needs some TLC to help it overcome its stressful night.
