FERRY FOOLISH: Passengers Flee As Two Huge Ships Collide

This is the moment two large ferries packed with people and vehicles collide with each other on a Brazilian island.

As passengers on the boat realise that they are about to collide, they try to flee down the deck shortly before the collision takes place.

Three different videos captured the drama from various angles as the two boats collided at the entrance of Todos os Santos Bay on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean on 6th February.

The ferries, identified as the Maria Bethania and Pinheiro, were only a short distance away from Itaparica Island’s Bom Despacho Terminal when the accident happened.

The Maria Bethania was just leaving the terminal, and the Pinheiro was just arriving, with both of the huge ships seemingly aiming to and from the same spot at the dock.

It is unclear why the ferry captains did not heed the warnings of the people shouting from the decks as it appears avoiding action was not taken soon enough.

The collision was so strong numerous motorbikes can be seen falling over as a result of the impact. One woman told local media that her motorbike had been damaged and was unable to go after the collision.

A spokesman for the company said that despite the collision, the two ferries carried on without any significant damage.
