FAMILY TIES: Fury At Couple Who Roped Granddaughter Outside Home

This shocking footage shows how a little girl’s hands were bound and she was left alone by her granddad and his wife in the dirt outside their family home.

Little Maram, aged just six, had reportedly been living with her granddad and his wife – not named – in Syria following the death of her parents years earlier.

Local media said the girl was neglected by the elderly couple and left for hours at a time outside their home and tied with a piece of rope so she could not walk off.

The video shows the youngster lying in the dirt and gravel with just a thin mat to cushion her.

After the video did the rounds online, Maram was rescued and taken to Bab al-Hawa Hospital in northern Syria, close to the Turkish border.

Doctors found she was severely malnourished, severely fatigued and had ulcers all over her body, including her head.

At the time of reporting, she was still receiving treatment for her skin ulcers.

Police in the Sarmada area of Syria’s Idlib Governorate – which is currently under the control of the opposition Syrian Salvation Government – arrested the grandparents.

At the time of reporting, they were waiting to be referred to the judiciary.

The Coventry-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has called for “accountability for those who abuse[d] the girl”.
