This is the moment Formula 2 driver Juan Manuel Correa who almost died when he crashed into Anthoine Hubert walks for the first time without crutches since nearly losing his leg.

Formula 2 driver Juan Manuel Correa, 20, recorded the video in his home at night on Tuesday 21st April.

The video shows the moment Correa starts walking at a very slow pace while applying as little pressure as possible on his right leg which has an Ilizarov apparatus around it.

The Ilizarov apparatus is a type of surgical treatment where metal rods are screwed into a bone to offer support and help shape bones and limbs in complex bone fractures.

Correa continues to limp across his home and is heard breathing heavily as he slowly approaches a chair.

The 20-year-old racing driver finally manages to get to the chair and says “ay, ay, ay” in relief as he sits down and rests.

He captioned the video: “So this happened last night.”

Spanish rally driver Jose Antonio Suarez commented: “Let’s go man! Bend to bend!”

And ‘jmcorrea_mx’ added: “You are incredible.”

While ‘1-fernando_lopez_piloto’ said: “Legend. Juan Manuel you are a warrior.”

Correa was involved in a fatal accident that claimed the life of French racing driver Anthoine Hubert at the 2019 Spa-Francorchamps FIA Formula 2 round at the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps on 31st August.

Hubert crashed into a tyre barrier and his car was deflected into Correa’s car. Correa was helicoptered to hospital. He remained in intensive care in London and was placed in an induced coma after he fell into acute respiratory failure.

Doctors considered amputating his right leg but were able to save it after successfully carrying out surgery.

It is unclear when Correa is expected to return to Formula 2. He drives for the Sauber Junior Team jointly run by Charouz.
