Masry reportedly criticised TV host Saeed on social media and celebrated when her show was suspended. The belly dancer reportedly said that the host was only fit to work as a maid in her home.

Saeed’s lawyer reportedly criticised Masry for posting inappropriate content onto social media with no regard for public decency.

Masry has often courted controversy, producing a video in 2013 in which she ridiculed US President Barack Obama, calling him a “dirty man” and showing edited images of him in a nappy and with exaggerated lips.

She is also an outspoken critic of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood who she has described as “traitors” in videos where she wears headscarves and niqabs.

Her 2011 film Ala Wahda We Nos’ which she wrote and starred in, criticised the sexual exploitation of women working in the media and was condemned by various segments of Egyptian society for its allegedly obscene content.

A journalists’ union in Egypt claimed that the film degraded the profession.

Prosecutors said in a statement on Sunday that the investigation will continue this week.
