This is the moment a fit police officer with a prosthetic leg beats a personal trainer in a press-up challenge in the middle of a Mexican square.

The video shows the moment police officer Pablo Eduardo Ramirez Lemus and gym coach Ivan Lopez take part in a press-up challenge in Zocalo Square in the city centre of the Mexican capital of Mexico City on 3rd July.

News outlet Excelsior reports that Lopez challenged the cop to help promote his demand for gyms and sports centres to reopen in the Mexican capital after they were shut down for the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the clip that has just been shared, Ramirez Lemus is seen wearing his uniform and doing press-ups in front of Lopez while they are egged on by onlookers.

The pair touch each other’s hand after each press up but after a few minutes the gym trainer is seen surrendering and putting his knee on the floor while the police officer keeps doing press-ups.

Onlookers burst into applause for the cop for winning the challenge.

Ramirez Lemus had a motorbike accident while he was on duty at the age of 21 and had his leg amputated, according to newspaper El Universal.

The police officer is reportedly a member of Mexico’s National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE).

The cop is a keen rower and told newspaper El Universal he hopes to reach the Paralympic Games next year, saying: “Everything started with my coach from the national team and that is why I started. I am preparing now for Tokyo 2021, I hope I will qualify to represent Mexico.”
