Suspect Mehmet Dopoglu, 49, is said to have killed his daughter Zulfiye, 24, in a hail of bullets, say police in Turkey.

Her fiance – 27-year-old Abdulsamet Kocaman – was killed with a single bullet to the head, according to local media.

The family had met at woodlands near the district of Cukurova, Adana Province, on 28th February, after Dopoglu asked to meet the couple to discuss their future.

He had reportedly opposed his daughter’s marriage from the start.

Her husband-to-be believed he had urged his daughter to run away from home two days before the deadly showdown.

Dopoglu is quoted by local media saying: “I called up Abdulsamet. He suggested we should all meet in a field to talk in person.”

He reportedly asked the young man to call off the wedding.

Abdulsamet agreed but demanded to be paid off by Dopoglu with some free real estate.

As a row broke out, Dopoglu pulled a gun and shot his daughter’s boyfriend in the head, killing him instantly, according to local media.

Then he turned the gun on his daughter as she tried to run away. She died the following day from gunshot wounds.

Dopoglu sped away in his car. The couple’s bodies were discovered by local residents.

Police arrested the attacker at his home in the municipality of Saricam after discovering his car speeding away as they checked CCTV footage of the region’s roads.

Dopoglu – who faces murder charges – remains in preventive custody as investigations into the case are continuing.
