This mother is under investigation on suspicion of stabbing her twin sons before turning the blade on herself.

Mother Nargiza Sibgatullina, 33, reportedly stabbed her twin seven-year-old sons at the family home in the south-western Russian city of Kazan – the capital of the country’s Republic of Tatarstan.

Local media report the mother is suspected of having stabbed both boys in their chests before attempting to commit suicide.

Neighbours had called the emergency services when they heard the boy’s screams coming from the flat and officers reportedly caught the mother trying to commit suicide.

One of the boys, neither of whom has been named in reports, was reportedly found dead at the scene whilst the other was still alive.

He was taken to hospital along with his mother, with both undergoing complex surgery. The boy is said to be in a stable condition whilst his mother is reportedly in a serious condition in the intensive care unit.

The unnamed husband, 33, was not at home on the day of the crime with local media saying that they believe there was problems in the relationship.

The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Tatarstan has opened two criminal cases into the case: one case of ‘murder of a minor’ and another of ‘attempt to kill two or more persons’.

The Committee have not provided a motive for the crime but confirmed the family was wealthy. The couple had reportedly been married for a long time and one neighbour said “she drove an Audi and didn’t work, he was a businessman”.

The investigation is ongoing and it is unclear if the mother has been arrested as she remains in intensive care.
