This is the moment a Russian cop sprints down an icy road in pursuit of a drink-driver before opening the door and jumping into the moving vehicle.

The dramatic scene took place in the city of Irkutsk in the region of the same name in southern Russia and was recorded on the police officers’ dashboard camera.

Local media report the driver of the white Toyota, carrying three passengers, had refused to pull over when stopped by the cops and in the video the patrol car can be seen chasing after the suspect’s vehicle.

The cars pass down snow-lined roads at high speed before one of the officers named as Evgheny Aksenov can be seen sprinting down an icy road after the Toyota as the driver has slowed down to keep control of the vehicle.

The cop reaches the car but the driver does not stop and so Aksenov is then forced to open the back door with the vehicle still moving.

The cop then appears to jump into the car and local media report the driver then stopped.

Official spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Irina Volk, 42, reported: “A police crew with officers Alexander Zubakov and Evgheny Aksenov were sent to the place where local residents had noticed a driver driving erratically.

“When he refused to pull over, Evgheny decided to stop the violator by jumping into his car on the go.”

According to Volk, the Toyota driver was a local resident who was drunk at the time with 1.87 ppm of alcohol.

There are no updates on the condition of the three unnamed passengers. An investigation has been launched and opening a criminal case against the Toyota driver is reportedly being considered.

Local media report the driver had previously been sentenced to two years probation in the city of Omsk for traffic violations.
