Cop Given 50 Yrs For Beating Partner, Shooting Her Dead

A cop has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for shooting his female work partner who he reportedly had a fling with before trying to make her death appear like a suicide.

The incident took place in a police station in the city of Mejicanos in the department of San Salvador located in western El Salvador after the defendant, Nestor Alfonso Mejia Coto, had a relationship with Lorena Beatriz Hernandez Quintanilla.

The attorney general’s office said that the defendant has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for the cop’s murder.

According to local media, Mejia Coto shot his colleague in the head following a heated row.

Reports said that the defendant claimed Hernandez Quintanilla has committed suicide after her body was found.

However, a subsequent investigation found that the victim had been beaten and shot by her partner following a row on 31st December 2017.

Mejia Coto was arrested the following day and was accused of murdering his partner and manipulating the crime scene to make it appear like suicide.

The forensics report showed that the victim had been shot in the head from a distance of 50 centimetres (20 inches) and the bullet’s trajectory did not suggest that she had done it herself.

Tests also showed that she had no gunshot residue on her hands.
