This Chinese woman said she was not wearing a face mask because it would ruin her lipstick when quizzed at a health checkpoint into a shopping centre.

The incredible clip was reportedly filmed by a volunteer-manned coronavirus checkpoint in the city of Suzhou in East China’s Anhui Province.

Official health guidelines require those wishing to enter public premises such as shopping centres, supermarkets or government offices to wear face masks and undergo mandatory temperature screening.

However, the woman wearing a fur coat and carrying a handbag was stopped at the COVID-19 checkpoint and refused entry for her failure to wear a mask.

In a video of a verbal exchange between the would-be shopper and a checkpoint volunteer, an employee can be heard saying: “If you queue here, you must wear one.”

But the woman responds: “I’m not wearing a mask. What are you going to do?”

As another volunteer shouts: “Then you can’t come in!” the first staff member says: “You’re so pretty. Why speak like this?”

The shopper explains: “I’m not wearing a mask. Can’t you see I have lipstick on?”

The volunteer responds by saying: “Then stay out there with your lipstick! You won’t be allowed in. I’m telling you!”

As the shopper users her own phone to film and take pictures of the volunteer, a red armlet reading ‘disease prevention’ can be seen on the staff member’s left sleeve.

The woman is believed to have been rightly denied entry.
