Chinese Millionaire Withdraws Fortune From Bank After Being Asked To Wear Face Mask

A Chinese millionaire is withdrawing all his savings from a Shanghai bank in cash, ordering them to check it note by note, after flying into a furious rage when a security guard asked him to wear a face mask.

These images show the first day that the Chinese millionaire put his plan into action, withdrawing CNY 5 million which is the maximum amount of cash that can be withdrawn because he was disgusted with the way he was treated.

The millionaire, who goes by the name ‘Sunwear’ on the social network Weibo, reportedly withdrew CNY 5 million (GBP 565,955) in banknotes from a branch of the Bank of Shanghai on Hongmei Road in the Chinese city of Shanghai. But he said he also plans to carry on going back every day until everything has been removed, with staff having to count it by hand each time.

In his post, the millionaire, real name not reported, expressed his dismay at the bank’s service although he did not outline from his side what this entailed, although the bank insisted it was simply when a security guard asked him to wear a mask.

The wealthy man accused bank staff of having “the worst service attitude” in their treatment of him even though he boasts having CNY tens of millions in the account, adding: “Because of this attitude, I can only withdraw all the money and put it in other banks.”

After asking staff for the large amount of money in banknotes, he said: “It was necessary to request them to count the cash in case it fell short.”

Images of the millionaire loading wads of CNY-100 (GBP-11.3) banknotes into cases and taking them to his luxury car have been widely shared on Chinese social networks.

‘Sunwear’ has reportedly seen his online following swell to 1.7 million as a result of his post.

He said it took two bank workers two hours to prepare his huge withdrawal with a single currency counter.

Stating that no staff member had broken any customer service guidelines, the bank added: “The client’s (complaint suggested) he had higher expectations of financial services.”

But this is the reality was that he had simply been very angry about being asked to wear a face mask.

It is unclear if the man has returned to withdraw the rest of his money in banknotes as he threatened.
