Incredibly, because the man held his phone a bit high, the chimp actually “instructed” him to lower it slightly so it could keep on watching.

The hilarious event reportedly took place at a zoo in Wuxi, a city in China.

The man, named Mr Jiao, told local media he was visiting the zoo with his girlfriend when he spotted the animal looking incredibly bored in its enclosure.

So, Mr Jiao decided to interact with the chimpanzee and tease it a little.

He took out his phone and began showing it animal videos through the glass – and incredibly, it watched along with great interest.

Mr Jiao said: “It watched with gusto, and the whole thing lasted for about ten minutes, as it was indicating when to scroll and watching in between.”

In the first piece of footage, the chimp can be seen crouching down with its arms crossed as Mr Jiao scrolls through his phone.

It even appears to be raising its eyebrows, seemingly pleasantly surprised by the content, and keeps watching intently.

Then, in a second video, the chimp can be seen apparently instructing Mr Jiao to lower the phone so it can see better.

The ape seems to be so entertained by the process that it even becomes annoyed when Mr Jiao takes away his phone for a short second, rolling around in its cage.

Mr Jiao said that when he finally left, the chimp was still reluctant for him to leave, and the tourists around him were all amused by it.

The chimpanzee is a species of great ape native to the forest and savannah of the tropical regions of Africa. It has four confirmed subspecies and a fifth proposed subspecies.

Sharing almost 98 per cent of human DNA, the chimpanzee is considered to be our closest living relative.
