This is the moment a black swan shares its food with a waiting school of ornamental koi carp.

The cute scene was filmed in the city of Weihai in the Chinese province of Shandong by a stunned passerby.

The man, name not reported, said he was walking around the lake when he noticed the “beautiful black swan” swimming in the water and decided to watch it for a while.

He said he was surprised when the swan then came ashore and started sharing its food with a waiting school of koi fish, so he took out his phone and filmed the scene.

In the video, the swan is seen taking food from a trough before putting its head in the water to apparently share it with the fish.

The swan repeats the process and the waiting koi thrash around to grab a nibble.

However, the news site Toutiao said it is more likely that the swan was eating dry food that made it thirsty for water and that every time it puts its beak in the water, some food leaks out and the fish are attracted to it.

If it is a common occurrence, the fish will form a habit and return to the spot in a large group to wait for ‘feeding time’ to begin.
