Chef’s Lotto Win After Buying Four Tickets

A chef has told how he cooked up a lotto fortune after he finished off four scratch-off tickets in a single sitting.

Lucky Maurice Sumpter, 61, – from the town of Clear Spring, Washington County, Maryland State, USA – scooped USD 50,000 (GBP 41,758) in his win.

Maurice told how he was convinced that one of his four tickets for a new game Lucky Riches would be a winner.

After the first three were duds, he was overjoyed when his last ticket turned out to be a massive winner.

Maurice said in a statement obtained by Newsflash from Maryland Lottery: “I went with my instincts. Then, when I saw that I won, I couldn’t believe it was real.”

But he said he has no plans to quit his restaurant job and will use the cash to help buy a new home.

He said: “I enjoy the job and the people. I love to be around people. I am very grateful.”

Mauricce, who is also an amateur artist, reportedly decided to take part in the new Lucky Riches game, when he visited the convenience store Sheetz #184 at 12404 Lager Avenue in the city of Hagerstown to buy propane.

The retailer will receive USD 500 (GBP 417) bonus for selling a top-prize ticket.

Maryland Lottery said: “The USD 5 [GBP 4.17] Lucky Riches game kicked off on 20th February. The game is packed with prizes ranging from USD 5 [GBP 4.17] to USD 50,000 [GBP 41,758].”
