This is the shocking moment a woman douses herself in ethanol and then sets herself alight because her husband refused to forgive her for cheating on him.

The video, which went viral on social media, shows a woman who appears to be in her 30s pouring a flammable liquid believed to be ethanol all over her body inside her home.

She rubs the liquid over her body and vest top as she talks to the camera before she ignites a lighter and sets herself alight, with the flames rapidly engulfing her before the video ends.

A second video shows the woman naked with her body visibly burnt as she says “I’m going to burn to death; bye” to the camera.

According to local news site Reporter MT, the woman in the video had cheated on her husband, who left her when he found out about the infidelity.

The woman allegedly became depressed when her husband refused to forgive her for her actions, and she decided to punish herself by setting herself on fire.

According to reports, the woman was rescued by her relatives, who took her to hospital in the city of Vitoria in the south-eastern Brazilian state of Espirito Santo in a serious condition.

According to news site Portal do Zacarias, she suffered first- and second-degree burns and will have to undergo surgery.

According to the hospital, her condition remains serious. However, she is not at risk of death.
