Cheapskate Porsche Owner Seized For Dodging Car Park Fees With Duct Tape

A Porsche owner who used duct tape to change his number plate so he could dodge car parking charges has been seized by police in southern China.

Baffled bosses in Nanning could not work out how the car was often parked in the same spot but there were no records of it getting out.

They could only find records – dating back six months (August) – of the Porsche getting into the parking lot, which used number plate recognition technology.

CCTV checks revealed that the owner – named in local media as Mr Cai – used duct tape to alter his number plate so it could not be caught on camera when he left.

Cai was caught in the act of using the tape to change the license plate’s ‘L’ to a ‘6’.

The Porsche driver is now facing a 15-day jail sentence and a fine of CNY 2,000 (GBP 240).

His vehicle was seized while police investigate his case.

The footage was later posted on Douyin – the Chinese version of TikTok – where netizens mocked the luxury car owner for refusing to pay for parking.

User ‘Amorous Swordsman Ruthless Sword’ said: So we can look down on those who drive luxury cars after we drive Wuling [a Chinese vehicle brand]. Because they are poorer than us, and they can’t afford parking fees, highway fees, and fuel.”
