A fearless dog lover chased off a marauding wolf when it tried to eat his pet pooch after a terrifying attack outside the family home.

Heroic owner Turgay Eraslan is seen in security CCTV footage dashing out armed only with a pitchfork to see off the rampant raider.

The wolf attack was filmed in the village of Balgoze in the district of Posof in the north-eastern Turkish province of Ardahan in the early hours of 12th April.

Turgay told local media: “When I got up for sahur [a meal consumed early in the morning by Muslims before fasting] at 2.30am,

“I immediately looked at my security camera after hearing my dog barking outside.

“When I saw the wolf attacking my dog in the garden, I wanted to save my dog and I took a pitchfork from the barn.

“In that moment, I went over to the hungry wolf and scared it away. I made it leave my garden and saved my dog in the process.”

He added: “When I saw the footage, I found it very scary.

“The wolf enters my property and takes the dog from the house. I have never seen anything like this before.”

In the footage, the wolf is seen strolling onto the grounds before apparently eyeing the dog and running over.

The dog tries to escape into the house but is quickly caught by the wolf, which tries to drag it away.

The dog breaks free and runs into the house, but is caught again and the wolf drags it onto the lawn in its jaws.

The wild predator apparently pins the pooch to the ground as Turgay runs out of the house to confront the wolf.

He runs back inside and returns with the pitchfork before chasing the beast away and saving his dog.
