This is the abandoned newborn baby found in a bush covered in blood with its umbilical cord still attached after it was discovered by an eagle-eyed pet cat.

The startlingdiscovery was made after Mohd Norazam Che Wahab let his cat out of his house in the city of Kota Bharu, in north-western Malaysia’s Kelantan state.

The 31-year-old says the cat sprinted across the street and appeared to be searching or something inside the bush.

Wahab said he followed the cat and soon heard a baby, which struck him as odd as none of his neighbours have babies.

He says he carried on looking in the bush along with his cat and he then came across a baby girl coated in blood with its umbilical cord still intact.

Wahab then told his neighbour to call the emergency services and they covered the tot with a cloth.

The baby girl was taken to hospital for treatment and the police have launched an investigation.

Wahab told reporters that his neighbours had seen a parked car in the area just before the baby was found but they did not think it was connected to the tot.

He says he could not imagine what might have happened to the tot if his cat had not helped him find it.

The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been reported.
