The 42-year-old U.S. Navy veteran has been taxi-ing her children around Charles County, Maryland state, USA, when she bought a scratch card on impulse.

She selected the 8-by-8-inch Mega 7s scratch-off that has four separate games on one card and 38 chances to win prizes of USD 10 (GBP 8.3) to USD 100,000 (GBP 83,000). The four games are Sapphire 7s, Emerald 7s, Ruby 7s and Diamond 7s.

The woman – not named by Maryland Lottery – said that it was only when she got home that she discovered she had won.

She told lottery officials: “I was crying and yelling. My husband, who was in the next room, had to come to see what was happening.”

Maryland Lottery said in a statement obtained by Newsflash on 3rd January: “She shared her happy news with immediate family members, but was still pinching herself until she claimed the prize two days later. “Set Sail” says she plans to use her windfall to make a small dream come true.

“I am looking into real estate investments and would like to build a community of affordable housing – specifically a group of tiny houses.”

She had purchased the ticket at the Westlake Liquors store at 1182 Smallwood Drive in Waldorf and the store will also get a USD 1,000 (GBP 830) bonus for selling it.
