BANG HIM UP: New Footage Shows Reveller Lighting Firework That Killed Mum Of Boy, 13

Police in Brazil hunting the New Year’s Eve reveller who set off a firework that killed a mother after it struck her in the chest and exploded have released a video of the tragic incident.

The victim, Elisangela Tinem Goncalves, died on the beach in Praia Grande when the wayward firework struck her and then exploded before she could throw it away.

Her 41-year-old cousin, Alexander Freitas Goncalves, who was with her at the time, received minor injuries when he also tried to remove the pyrotechnic before it went off with a bang.

The new footage released by police shows the moment when a man dressed in a white T-shirt and red shorts lights the firework on the sand.

The footage shows how it starts to rise into the air but then suddenly turns on a 90 degree angle and goes hurtling straight towards Elisangela.

As the pyrotechnic goes off, revellers can be heard screaming, with some running away in terror.

Police believe the man who lit the fatal firework fled the scene after it hit Elisangela without stopping to help her.

Police chief Alex Mendonca do Nascimento told local media on 3rd January: “It would be interesting for him to present himself at the police station, as the case, for the time being, is qualified as manslaughter.”

He added that if he does not turn himself in, police will ask judges to authorise an arrest warrant.

As well as working to confirm the firework-lighter’s identity, police also want to know who sold him the pyrotechnic.

Selling fireworks in Praia Grande is illegal under municipal law.

Elisangela, 38, lived in Sao Paulo but had gone to the coast to celebrate New Year’s Eve with her family.
