The incident was filmed in the town of Oldbury in the English county of West Midlands on 27th August, and the police shared the footage on social media.

In the clip, the suspect is seen ramming the cop off his bike before passersby help him to his feet and check on his wellbeing.

The West Midlands Police said on Youtube: “People who came to the aid of a police motorcyclist who’d been rammed off his bike were hailed today, as the officer’s attacker faced jail.

“PC Steve Lovering had spotted a Seat Leon which he thought could have been one of two recently stolen.

“He pulled up alongside the vehicle on Ashes Road, Oldbury, and recognised the driver as Callum Fellows – whose name had been linked to the stolen cars.”

Fellows, 18, reversed and deliberately drove into PC Lovering’s BMW, sending him sprawling in the road.

The officer called for backup and described where the driver was heading as he sped away on the wrong side of the road and after jumping red lights.

The police said that the vehicle, which was on false plates, is believed to have been stolen during a car key burglary.

The police said: “PC Lovering later picked Fellows out in an ID parade. He’s now admitted assault, dangerous driving, criminal damage, and driving while disqualified over the attack, on 27 August.

“He has also admitted receiving stolen goods, three other charges of dangerous driving and disqualified driving, as well as stealing a motor vehicle.

PC Lovering said: “It was pure luck that there weren’t any cars near me when I was knocked off the bike, as it could have been much worse.

“I had some back and shoulder pain, but nothing was broken.”

The police officer added: “It was really heartening to see so many people stopping to help and check that I was OK and offer their help.”

Fellows is currently awaiting sentence.
