This is the moment a boy left at home alone falls from the residential building where he lives before cheating death and landing safely on his parent’s shop awning below.

The incident happened in Majiang County in the province of Guizhou in south-western China on 14th November.

The three-year-old, whose name has not been given, had been left sleeping at home while his mum went downstairs to tend to her family’s ground-floor baby supply shop.

According to reports, the boy woke up to find his home empty, and he climbed out a first-floor window in search of his parents.

Video taken by witnesses shows the tot dangling from a first-floor concrete awning outside the open window.

As a crowd of passers-by prepare to catch him below, the toddler drops onto his family’s shop awning, landing safely on the canvas which successfully prevents a 13-foot fall to the pavement.

Local policeman Chen Jianfei, who was among the crowd, recalled: “By the time we noticed the child, he had already climbed out the window and was on the edge of the concrete awning.”

Chen said residents brought over a ladder to reach the boy, but one of the rescuers got hold of the child’s arms and plucked him off the awning.

The tot’s mum, Ms Cai, said: “We’ve been living and doing business here for 10 years. Nothing like this has ever happened.”
