A Brit holidaymaker is facing four years in jail after refusing to pay a 200 GBP hotel bill after claiming he had already settled the bill online.

The holidaymaker, identified only by his initials SJD, who is reportedly 25, ran up an IDR 3.7 million (GBP 197) after checking in at the unnamed hotel in Kuta in Bali.

He claimed to have booked the room through the online booking site Agoda but the staff pointed out that the payment had not gone through.

Police spokesman Made Putra Yudistira said the suspect then made another booking and again the credit card did not go through, although he insisted the card was still valid and claimed he would call Agoda to sort it out.

However, the hotel complained that on 1 August he vanished from his room leaving his belongings behind and after he then turned up, he was arrested.

The hotel had filed a criminal complaint last month, resulting in crime squad cops looking for and tracking down the man who now faces up to 4 years for fraud.

He is currently in police custody pending a trial.
