A 24-year-old British citizen has been arrested for trying to smuggle over 150 ecstasy pills and almost 30 grams of ketamine into a Croatian tourist hotpsot by shoving them up his bum.

The Britsh citizen, who has not been named, was reportedly caught with 151 ecstasy pills and 29 grams of ketamine inside a 14-centimetre (5.5-inch) condom which had been placed up his rectum as he passed through border control at Zadar Airport on the Dalmatian Coast in western Croatia.

Reports say he tested positive for drugs at the control and officials suspected he was hiding it somewhere in his body so he was taken to a hospital where the drugs were discovered using ultrasound.

The drugs were removed from his rectum and the doctors informed the police.

The police shared the information on their page: “Police officers of the Maritime and Airport Police Department of Zadar and the Department of Drug Crime of this police administration conducted a criminal investigation of the 24-year-old British citizen, who is suspected of unauthorised production and trafficking of drugs.”

The suspect was handed over to the custodial supervisor of the Zadar police administration with a criminal report.

It is believed that he was headed towards Zrce, a beach on the Adriatic island of Pag in the northern part of the Croatian coast.

According to local media, ketamine, a horse tranquiliser, is relatively unknown in the area and is priced at around 100 EUR (89 GBP) per gram at parties.

Criminal expert Dubravko Klaric explained that this was not the smartest way to smuggle the drugs: “The gastric acid can degrade the container that he swallowed completely in one moment and of course then the consequences can be fatal.”

Last year the Croatian police registered 11,268 seized drugs. Among others, they seized 5.2 kilograms of heroin, nearly 109 kilograms of cocaine, 484 methadone tablets, 12.2 kilograms of ecstasy and 374 doses of LSD.

Netizen ‘EmilLuka’ commented: “Again a British guy in Zadar.”

While ‘mafer’ added: “Another British person, what nice people!”

And ‘lulichmiro’ wrote: “They should have called his drunk friends to take it out.”
