These images show a man standing in a digger scoop that is extended over a fast-flowing river to rescue a terrified cat stranded on a rocky riverbank.

The incident took place in the Salpazari District, which is located in Trabzon Province, in north-eastern Turkey. The exact date is unclear but it is understood to have taken place recently.

The footage begins by showing the terrified stray cat, which can be heard meowing loudly over the thunderous rumble of the river. A tractor digger with a large scoop on the front and a smaller one attached to an extendable arm on the back of it can be seen making its way up the middle of the river, where some rocks are above the water.

After reaching the trapped moggy, the digger, operated by an unnamed man, can be seen extending its rear scoop while another man, also unnamed, stands on it so that he can reach the cat.

He can be seen reaching out to the unnamed cat and grabbing it by the scruff of its neck before pulling it over to himself and to relative safety as the footage ends.

Both men and the cat made it safely back to dry land. The cat was given a checkup by a vet and was released back onto the street after being given the all-clear.

Turkey is famous for its love of stray dogs and cats, with locals all over the country regularly feeding them and providing them with shelter.
