The son of Equatorial Guinea’s dictator has been shamed for staying in a USD 75,000-night New York Penthouse while demanding aid from the UN.

Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue – his dad’s Vice President – bragged about the stay at the five-bedroomed suite at the legendary The Mark Hotel in Manhattan.

The post carried a series of snaps showing playboy Obiang in a sky-blue designer suit posing on his private terrace with the New York skyline in the background.

Obiang, 55, is seen dripping in gold jewellery and wearing sunglasses, even inside his penthouse library.

He did not appear to see the cruel irony of his fellow citizen’s struggle, where many survive on USD 2 a day.

Astonishingly, Obiang was staying at the penthouse to address the UN, where he spoke about the lack of development in Africa.

At an assembly meeting on 21st September, he said: “Africa deserves the priority attention of support initiatives and development financing.”

Obiang’s lavish free-spending lifestyle is funded by his mega oil-rich dictator father Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo off the backs of the country’s workers.

He has made headlines before over his lavish taste, his love of Bugattis, and the millions of dollars that authorities have already seized from him.

Meanwhile, more than 60 per cent of Obiang Mangue’s countrymen suffer from hunger and millions are without even water.

His lavish penthouse takes up 929 square metres with five huge bedrooms, six bathrooms, a library lounge, and a dining room for 12 people.

Obiang has been the VP of Equatorial Guinea since 2016. His dictator dad Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, 81, has ruled the country since 1979.

Despite being one of Africa’s richer countries, only about half the population of Equatorial Guinea have access to clean drinking water.

The country has one of the worst human rights records in the world, and nearly one in 10 children die before the age of five.

US authorities believe that the presidential family obtained large chunks of their wealth from corrupt deals linked to the country’s oil and gas reserves.

Obiang’s foreign assets include two houses in South Africa worth around EUR 2.5 million (GBP 2.1 million), a property in Malibu with a sea view and its own golf course worth EUR 33.4 million (GBP 28.9 million), and a house in Paris’ elite 16th Arrondissement.
