This beautiful 18-year-old journalism student has been killed in a road accident after visiting her grandmother on her 80th birthday.
The tragic accident took place in the municipality of Brotas in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo on the evening of 13th March.
Mariana Galastri Prado Telles, a journalism student at the Pontifical Catholic University of Sao Paulo (PUC), was killed in the accident while her brother Eduardo, 20, who was reportedly behind the wheel, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Both victims were taken to the Hospital de Brotas, but the 18-year-old student succumbed to her injuries.
She was the daughter of Francisco Augusto Prado Telles Junior, the former mayor of the municipality of Dois Corregos.
Her university said in a statement: “PUC-Campinas mourns the death of Mariana Galastri Prado Telles, a second-year journalism student.”
She was buried in the cemetery of Dois Corregos on the afternoon of 14th March.
Her grandfather Francisco Augusto Prado Telles told local media: “If you were to ask any grandfather about his granddaughter who has just passed away, you would surely hear that she was special, unique, beautiful, intelligent and loving. That’s how every grandfather sees his granddaughter. However, in this special case, I am forced, for the sake of truth, to say that she was special, not only for me, but as a true angel of God.”
He said Eduardo was driving at the time of the accident, and the family does not yet know the full details of what happened.
The grandfather said Eduardo probably lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons, and it flipped over several times, adding that the victim’s brother dislocated his left arm and is still recovering from the accident.
Francisco continued: “We are all shaken, especially her brother, who was with her at the time of the accident and was very close to her. How can you not feel guilty?
“This is the human problem, judging yourself and judging others. He is still fragile, but I think he will have the strength to overcome the loss and conquer the world in honour of his sister.”
The siblings were travelling from visiting their grandparents in Brotas to their home in the municipality of Campinas when the accident took place.
