When speaking about of the ability Barcelona local police Mossos d’Esquadra to offer the necessary security for the world-famous match between Barcelona and Real Madrid, Castejon assured “we are ready” explaining: “We have units in public order that are more than capable to face this.

“We also have national police and civil guard that will surely be a part of the operation.”

Despite showing confidence in local authorities, Castejon said: “From this point forward, in an operation like this, you want to prepare for the worst possible situation.

“We do this so it does not catch us off guard. We have gone through savage experiences for the past two months, this is nothing out of this world.”

Political unrest has affected the autonomous community of Catalonia located in northeastern Spain after the Spanish since October of this year after the Supreme Court sentenced nine Catalan separatist leaders to between nine and 13 years in prison.

When asked about his thoughts over the match being played as scheduled in Barcelona, Castejon said: “The match will end up being played, and it should.”

The comments come after a pro-independent group called ‘Tsunami Democratic’ called for any Catalonian-independence supporters to meet at the Barcelona’s stadium to protest just hours before the match is set to start through their online platform.

The match between Barcelona and Real Madrid is set to take place on 18th December after it was rescheduled from October 26th as there were still heavy protests happening in the city at the time.

Real Madrid are level with Barcelona on 34 points but the Catalan side sit top of La Liga on goal difference.
