Accused Was Already On Ban When He Hit Girl At Bus Stop

A speeding drunk driver who crushed a six-year-old girl to death as she waited at a bus stop with her mum is facing up to five years behind bars, a court has heard.

Victim Chayenne, aged 6, poses in undated photo. She was run over to death by a drunk driver in the town of Hartha, Free State of Saxony, Germany at the beginning of September, 2022. (Newsflash)

Prosecutors say the girl was mowed down as the driver – name only as 30-year-old Adrian K. – lost control of his powerful BMW on a bend.

Shockingly, he was already on a drink-driving ban for an earlier offence and should not have been on the road.

The motor, Chemnitz District Court, in Saxony State, Germany, heard on Thursday, 30th March, ploughed into victim Chayenne as she waited for a bus with her mother and two siblings.

The schoolgirl had been on her way to the supermarket with her family when the Hungarian national hit her head on in the town of Hartha seven months ago (30th September, 2022).

Prosecutors say he was driving at 75 kph (47 mph) when he crushed Chayenne against a wall.

The court heard he had veered onto the pavement after “losing control of his BMW, as a result of improper speed.”

Witnesses say he tried to flee on foot but was grabbed by two passers-by.

Tests showed that the driver was 20 times over the drink-drive limit.

He had lost his licence five weeks earlier after he had been convicted of drink-driving.

At the court hearing, judge Gudrun Trautmann, aged 61, said: “There’s up to five years in prison.”

The verdict is expected on Tuesday, 18th April.
