The man from Prince George’s County, Maryland State, USA, who called himself ‘Moreland’s Produce and Market Winner’ was so shocked following the USD 50,000 (GBP 39,930) win, he completely forgot to head back to work.

He claimed he took his keno ticket straight home that day to share the great news with his brother and said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “I never made it to work!”

The huge Keno fan had bought the ticket at his favourite retailer Moreland’s Produce and Market at 14950 Woodville Road in the area Waldorf, on Friday, 12th May.

Keno is a lottery-like gambling game often played at modern casinos and some lotteries, where players wager by choosing numbers from one to 80, after which 20 numbers are drawn at random.

He said that while waiting in line to make the purchase, a stranger approached him from behind and suggested he try the game’s 8-spot bet to increase his chances to win big.

So aside from adding the Super Bonus option, he selected numbers 24, 27, 34, 37, 44, 47, 54 and 57, for USD 15 (GBP 12) and headed out.

Soon after he made a stop at a convenience store near his workplace to pick up some items and ended up astonished when he checked his ticket.

The man said: “I was shocked. It said to take it to the Lottery and I thought it was at least USD 20,000 [GBP 15,947] with the Super Bonus.”

At lottery headquarters he revealed he plans to use the money to buy a new car, and save the rest.

Maryland Lottery officials explained: “An 8-spot wager pays a base prize of USD 10,000 [GBP 7,976] if all eight of the numbers on the ticket are among the 20 Keno numbers that are selected in a given drawing.

“The Super Bonus option gives players the chance to multiply their winnings by up to 20 times and guarantees prizes at least double.

“All eight of the lucky ticket’s numbers were selected in the first of its five drawings, which had a 5x Super Bonus multiplier, delivering a USD 50,000 [GBP 39,880] prize.”

They also revealed that the retailer will get a USD 500 (GBP 399) bonus for selling a winning Keno ticket.
