This doctor is on trial for leaving his pretty girlfriend’s face covered in in cuts and bruises after giving her a savage beating when she did not want to have sex with him.
According to local media, Singaporean stand-in doctor Clarence Teo Shun Jie allegedly assaulted Rachel Lim En Hui at his home in Redhill in the island city-state of Singapore on 27th August 2017.
He is also accused of confining the 27-year-old victim in his bedroom and stopping her from leaving that morning.
Reports said that the defendant, who is no longer with En Hui, is also suspected of three earlier offences that take place in March 2017, but these incidents are not being considered in the trial at the moment and may be revisited at a later date.
The couple met through an online dating app called ‘Coffee Meets Bagel’ in February 2017.
The victim told the police that she found out later he was an alcoholic who had also been diagnosed with drug addiction, according to local media.
Despite claims that the doctor assaulted the victim on 12th and 30th March, En Hui continued to see him and he allegedly caused serious facial injuries in the early hours of 27th August 2017.
The court heard that the defendant became enraged when the victim said that she did not want to have sex with him.
When she tried to leave his flat, he chased her, dragged her back into the room and locked the door, according to reports.
The locum then repeatedly punched the woman’s face and hit her head against the wall, according to the court statement.
The victim said in court: “I was screaming at the top of my voice.”
The defendant’s father was living in the flat at the time and he reportedly called the police at 4.12am.
Sergeant Muhammad Jauhary Sabiri said in court that the cops on the scene decided that the victim’s life was in danger and so they decided to break down the front door.
She then spent the next 21 days in hospital, according to reports.
If found guilty of voluntarily causing grievous hurt, the Singaporean defendant could face up to 10 years in prison as well as a fine or caning.
The trial continues next week.
