This is the moment a schoolgirl jumps from the back door of a moving bus and falls onto the road after realising she is on the wrong route.

The incident happened seconds after the unnamed secondary school pupil got on the number 9 bus in Changsha, capital of Hunan Province in Central China – and after the driver forgets to close the back doors.

CCTV footage from the vehicle shows the rucksack-carrying teenager walking to the back of the moving bus and holding on to the handrail as she steps out the folding doors without hesitating at around 5:30pm local time on 23rd June.

Passengers can be heard screaming as they watch the girl plant her feet on the ground and fall over, with video taken in the aftermath of the accident showing her lying injured on the road.

According to reports, she was taken to the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, and is being treated for injuries to her head as well as multiple contusions to her body.

The bus driver, surnamed Wang, has been suspended by his employers as an enquiry into possible negligence continues.

Wang said he had closed both front and back doors and was driving away from Hunan Dizhi Middle School when he saw the girl running towards his bus.

He stopped to let her on and then set off again, then she walked to the front of the bus to ask whether number 9 passes the city’s Wuyi Square.

When Wang told her no, she turned around and walked right out the back doors, which he had forgotten to close again.

Both Wang and the schoolgirl are expected to share liability for the accident.

Wang’s employers said he has 20 years of driving experience and had never been involved in any safety-related incident.

They added that any compensation would have to wait until after a police verdict.

Further investigations are ongoing.
