These pics show the huge 16-lb edible mushroom unearthed by a hill walker and he now plans to gobble up the freaky fungus by cooking it up with onions.

Emin Topal, who works at the cable car station on Baglarbasi Mountain in the south-western Turkish province of Denizli, found the mushroom “in a rocky area” close to the peak, according to reports.

The huge white mushroom weighed a whopping 7.125 kilogrammes (15.7 lbs).

Topal told local media that he had never seen such a large mushroom before, adding that the biggest one he found before was a mere four kilogrammes (8.8 lbs) in comparison.

He said: “The mushroom is known locally as ‘tombak’ and I spotted it on the higher parts of the mountain.

“Last year, I came across a large mushroom that weight four kilogrammes, but this is the first time in my life that I have seen one as big as this.”

“It is edible and harmless. It tastes very nice when it is cooked with some onions!”

Topal also said that it is common for visitors to the area to encounter giant mushrooms while hiking through the mountain range, adding that they tend to grow in rocky areas.
