A nine-year-old boy’s body was found in the garden of an abandoned house after a paedophile suspect told police where to find him.
Victim Gino van der Straeten was reported missing by his elder sister after he failed to come home after playing football a week ago (1st June).
Hundreds of locals in Kerkrade, Netherlands, turned out to search for the lad without success.
His scooter was found three miles from the playground he had told his sister he was going to.
The boy – from Maastricht – had been staying with her.
Now Dutch police have recovered Gino’s body after a 22-year-old suspect told them where to find him.
Local media are describing the youngster as the probable victim of a paedophile sex crime.
Local police and officials have refused to speculate on what charges the suspect might face.
Police revealed that Gino’s family have received counselling by a team of psychologists.
In a statement, the family were described as “completely devastated” by the news.
It said: “Their mourning and shock are indescribable.”
The main suspect will face further interrogations in the coming days and remains in custody.
