An attacker who threw an entire bucket of acid over a man in a row over his missing GBP 40,000 life savings has been arrested by police.
Shocking CCTV footage of the attack emerged as the 37-year-old victim recovered from horrific injuries in hospital.
In the footage, attacker Halil Pesin, 41, can be seen sitting opposite his victim – manufacturer Muzaffer Kaydi – at an office in Merkezefend, in southwest Turkey.
As the heated conversation goes on, Pesin – who claims Kayid has swindled him – begins opening a bag with a bucket inside it.
Suddenly, he stands up and hurls the whole bucket of liquid into Kayid’s face and then flees.
The suspect – now in police custody following the April 11 attack – was remanded in custody after his statement was taken at the Provincial Security Directorate.
Pesin was then arrested on the order of a judge on the charge of attempted murder.
He was asked by the journalists in front of the court to explain why he threw acid at the victim’s face.
He said: “He did not pay his debt. I was defrauded. His debt to me was TRY 750.000 (GBP 39.074) last year.
“We could not come to an agreement. I saved that money over 30 years.”
Kaydi reportedly lost his left eye in the attack and is recovering at a private hospital.
It is unknown whether a third person seen in the video – whose name was not disclosed – was injured in the incident.
