This is the moment a restaurant owner saves a two-year-old child from choking by positioning her face-down and patting her back.
The incident took place in the city of Aksaray in the Turkish province of the same name, and was filmed by the restaurant’s CCTV camera.
Little Mina U, aged 2, was choking on a piece of bread when restaurant owner Murat Altindal, 30, sprang into action and dislodged the obstruction.
He said afterwards: “We were doing the accounts when all of a sudden I heard the child’s mother screaming. We intervened straight away. We have had experience with this matter with our own child. We have also had first aid training and the problem was solved quickly. I think the mother gave the child bread to eat.
ENT specialist Dr Erkan Ozturk said: “Well done to the man. He actually saved a life thanks to his first aid training. He was very selfless and I congratulate him for his actions.”
In the footage, the mum tries to give her daughter puree before giving up and letting her have a drink of bottled water instead.
After taking a swig, the tot’s eyes widen and she apparently begins choking.
It is unclear if the bread was in the bottle of water or already in the girl’s mouth.
The restaurant owner, sitting nearby doing the accounts, jumps to his feet and helps to remove the struggling girl from the baby chair.
He then positions her face-down and begins to lightly slap her back.
Meanwhile, a woman in an orange gown and headscarf, possibly the man’s partner, arrives to offer help as well.
Despite crying, the little girl’s obstruction was dislodged and she appears fine as the video ends.
