An 18-year-old bride has died on her wedding night after she fell ill during sexual intercourse.
The incident took place at the couple’s home in the Brazilian city of Ibirite on the night of 10th June.
According to the police, the young woman was having sexual intercourse with her husband when she started to feel unwell and fainted.
The man called his neighbour for help and they ordered a taxi via an app. However, the taxi driver, on arriving, refused to take the passed-out woman to hospital.
The man and his neighbour then ordered a second taxi. However, on arriving, the taxi driver advised they call the emergency services instead.
Upon arriving on the scene, paramedics found the woman with severe shortness of breath and realised she had suffered a heart attack.
She was intubated, but died en route to hospital. Her body showed no signs of violence, and it is being treated as an accidental death.
According to the woman’s husband, it took an hour for the ambulance to arrive on the scene. The emergency services have denied this, claiming the ambulance they called was originally cancelled, and that it arrived on the scene within 21 minutes when it was reordered.
After the woman’s passing, her corpse was taken for a post-mortem. According to reports, the deceased woman had a history of bronchitis.
The man was reportedly so shaken by his wife’s passing that he told reporters that he was unsure he could even continue to live in the same city.
The couple’s names have not been divulged. The police will investigate the case.
